When a new show pops up on the calendar we are always keen to check it out, so when we were invited to attend Midlands Volkswagen’s new show, MLVW in Mullingar, we jumped at the chance.
Located at Columb Barracks, a military base built in 1814 after the Irish Rebellion, we set off from Belfast to make our journey south. Winding our way through the b roads from Ardee to Mulligar we pushed our cars hard through some of the most fun roads we’ve driven on route to a show.
Arriving in Mulligar we went through our usual wash rituals and then arrived at the barracks where we were greeted by a massive set of steel gates which led to a tree lined lane and into a beautiful 18th century courtyard which was already filling up with dubs of all shapes and sizes.
After setting up our stand with our friends at DesignRMC we took a walk around and seen a lot of familiar faces with GTINI, Autostadt, VAGE, ILB and Kleen Freaks in attendance as well as a whole host of cars that that we had seen in Limerick and shows in the north.
Some of our favourite cars of the day included Connor McCann’s freshly painted Manila Green MK3 GTI with a VR6 transplant, Cian O’Mahoney’s Seat Arosa with full Candy Red BBS RM’s, Ben Emerson’s MK5 Golf which had just been treated to a rather large set of Lamborghini brakes and Robin Ashfield’s ever perfect MK4 R32.
Once again we had a successful journey in the Republic with our stand picking up 6 trophies including the Best Wheels of the show:
Best Audi – Ryan McCall
Best Passat – Gavin Black
Best Jetta – Niall Gerety
Best MK6 – Stephen McKenna
Best MK5 – Clark Caughey
Best Wheels – Clark Caughey
Thanks to Midlands Volkswagen for the invite and congratulations on running a very successful first show. Hopefully this will be the first of many and we’ll make a return trip again next year.
